Auld Wrecks and Pigsties Photo Walk Saturday May 13th 2023

We discover the delights (and mud) of the riverside walkway between Erskine and the Erskine Bridge, encompassing auld vessels (think Bowling Basin with a lot less wood, visible but shed loads more history. And mud.) Victorian pigsties (but no Victorian pigsand no mud), a woodland walk with squirrels and the occasional deer (slight mud potential).

See if you can spot the wait time markers for the old Erskine Ferry. Coffee stop at Caulders Garden Centre (good cakes, also no mud).

The Photo themes for this week are:

1) Riverscapes

2) Vessels

3) I wasn't expecting that!

Dont forget to upload your 3 edited images to the website

Meet at the Newshott Nature Reserve carpark at 12.15pm, as the auld wrecks are only accessible at low tide.

Newshot Nature Reserve, Newshot Drive, Erskine PA8 7JP

The choice thereafter is either to do the full walking circuit or to take the cars over to the Boden Boo carpark under the Erskine Bridge. Full distance is probably about five miles.

Walking boots recommended as we are on rough ground for most of the walk.

Looks good. Is it rideable for an MTB? Plenty of time before low tide.

Please note, on that map it looks as if the meeting point is the blue marker. it isn't.  Head along Kilpatrick Drive and there's a car park there.

The main paths are all tarmac, Alan, but those through the nature reserve are gravel/forest floor and perfectly MTB-able. But there aren't that many paths. If you want a better challenge, head the other way to Boden Boo.
