At Irvine Camera Club we have just started our 26-27 Season and have been looking back over the last fantastic season which ended with our popular summer walks.  We are very much a club run based on the interests and feedback of members from the planning of talks, interest groups, supporting and interacting with local groups and accommodating any special interests that come along.

Something new that came out of discussions last year was the need for some small group meetings in order to create a safe space to discuss our own personal photography and to learn from each other.  This was put in place during last season with a number of groups now active within the club.

The groups have no set agenda, but with only 5 or 6 members in each group it can be flexible, meeting to meeting, allowing us to focus on different areas of photography as the needs of the group change.  It is also an opportunity to have a more in-depth discussion regarding our work and spend longer on it than is normally available in a normal club meeting.

One of the strengths of a small group like this is that we can look at work outside of the normal kind of work that gets submitted to the camera club, which allows for some feedback on more specialised topics or techniques.  Having his opportunity is one of the benefits of belonging to a club full of knowledgeable photographers who are willing to share and discuss in a supportive and creative way alongside the regular club socials and events.

The images here represent some of the work that has been discussed in the group meetings that I am involved with.

Irvine Camera Club prides itself on being an inclusive club, open to anyone, any age, who is interested in photography, whatever you use to take photos.  Being social and getting out is an important part of what we do and who we are as club, and making friends and spending time doing something we enjoy is always at the heart of everything we aim to do.

If you would like to know more about photography or if any of these images have inspired you pick up a camera then you’d be very welcome to come along on one of our summer social walks.
