The images presented here were all taken by members of Irvine Camera Club and submitted to our digital image competition. If you have received or bought a new camera over the recent festive break and are struggling to understand what it does or how to create images that have meaning or impact, then camera clubs are full of people that can help.
As you can see from this selection, the range of subjects, interests, styles and techniques varies greatly and most of our members are constantly trying new things and venturing out beyond their comfort zone. I joined the camera club when I moved to Scotland, initially to meet people with similar interests and to enable me to explore the local (and not so local) areas with photographers who were familiar with the ‘best’ places to take photos.
But it has been so much more. With advice from experienced users and inspiration from others' work, I have tried new techniques and gained a fresh perspective on my own images. Competitions are always an important part of club life, whether internal or between clubs and although hesitant at first, I find them to be places I can test out work, get helpful feedback, see the work of others and generate discussion. Each competition is different and different types of images might do better in certain mediums, whether printed or digital and so they force you to have consideration of what you are submitting and how you wish your work to be presented all within a safe environment where the focus is on support and encouragement.
So, if you have an interest in photography, would like to see what we are up to and want to be part of an exciting, all-inclusive club then why not come along, you will be made to feel very welcome.
We meet on Tuesdays, starting at 7.30 at Irvine Community Sports Club, Waterside, Marress Roundabout, Irvine KA12 8DL
