Every year we ask our members to take part in a fun exercise to recreate the “Picture I Wish I had Taken”.  The idea is simple, you find an iconic image and do your best to recreate your version of it, paying attention to how the original image was made.

We have everything from album covers, advertisements, famous paintings, and this year a rather famous press photo!  It is always entertaining to see the creativity and ingenuity that people use to get the shot.  Even though some members are often a bit overwhelmed before they start, we often hear back from them that the challenge was enjoyable and that they really enjoyed the process.   Judging by the laughs and applause in the room it is obvious that the effort was very much worth it!

It’s never the same without prizes and this year we asked committee member, Mike Mungall, to choose his top 3 photos.  Coming in first was Joanne Redford with her amazing recreation of an old ketchup advert – all done without the use of photoshop!  Colin Duffy came in second with his very well thought out Godfather movie poster recreation.  And in third place, new member Anne Gardiner was chosen for her graceful and amazingly accurate version of a Monet painting.   I hope you enjoy looking at the winners as well as a few of the other contenders.

If you have an interest in photography, would like to see what we are up to and want to be part of an exciting, all-inclusive club then why not come along, you will be made to feel very welcome.

We meet on Tuesdays, starting at 7.30 at Irvine Community Sports Club, Waterside, Marress Roundabout, Irvine KA12 8DL
