Black and White photography, some would say is the purist form of photography.  It’s where it started and still to this day, is a very popular medium amongst photographers.  Take the colour out of an image and you start to look at contrast, light and shade, texture, details within the image that might not get the attention they deserve when working in colour.

It requires the photographer to see the subject differently from how it appears in front of them, to visualise the image as it will end up, even before they have taken the shot.  Black and White also seems to add a timeless quality to an image, making it more difficult to tell when it was taken.

The images presented here were taken over the last few weeks at different locations around Ayrshire, and highlight the different interests of our members.  Black and White is also very effective on damp grey days with little light, something to consider when the weather isn’t what we would wish it to be.

We still have lots of walks to come this summer, so if you are interested in photography and would like to come along, it’s an opportunity to see new places, re-visit familiar sites, meet new people and chat about photography, then you would be made to feel very welcome.  We have a full programme of events for the summer where visitors are most welcome to join us.  If interested, drop us a message and get in touch.
