At Irvine Camera Club we are spending the summer out and about exploring this area of Scotland through our weekly photo walks.  We are a community-based camera club, working to provide a photographic document of the area and the events that take place within it.

While it is great to visit the obvious places or the big events, there is also a desire within the club to document local towns and villages and so every year we like to take some of our trips to places that might be less obvious for a photo-walk.

Recently we explored the area around Stewarton, the challenge was to find images within the everyday ‘normal’ and to document the area.  In years to come these images will look and feel quite different to how they do now, containing memories of the past.  This is largely the point of photography, the images remain constant, unchanging as the world around us moves on, making the photography more valuable year by year.

This is especially true of portraiture and people but also of buildings and businesses and so even when there appears to be nothing to photograph, there is always something right in front of you that might not be there in ten years’ time and so is worth documenting.

We still have lots of walks to come this summer, so if you are interested in photography and would like to come along, it’s an opportunity to see new places, re-visit familiar sites, meet new people and chat about photography, then you would be made to feel very welcome.  We have a full programme of events for the summer where visitors are most welcome to join us.  If interested, drop us a message and get in touch.
