One of the things that Irvine Camera Club is especially proud of and continues to work at is building relationships within the local community, supporting them through our photographic work where we can.  One of these is the upcoming ‘Reflections’ exhibition, part of the annual Ayrshire Mental Health Arts Festival that is held every October.  The images presented here are some of the submissions from which the final exhibition images will be taken and all contain elements and shades of the colour ‘Yellow’.

Having just had our first club competition of the year, images to follow in the coming weeks, one of the comments from the judge was how much our members like the colour yellow, and how often it appeared in the images.  Most photographers are aware of ‘colour psychology’ and the meaning that colour can have in an image.  For example, Red being love, passion, anger, danger, Blue representing calmness, trust, stability, Black for power, elegance etc

Colour has been used throughout art history to express emotion or underlying meaning in the work and Yellow can be seen to represent Happiness, Joy, Optimism, Hope and Energy.  Of course, it depends on what you read to how it is interpreted, as it could also mean Caution, Cowardice, Deceit and Frustration.  Different cultures can also have different meanings attached to colour as well.  It’s no wonder Black and White Photography is often seen as a purer form of photography, based on shape, form and texture.  But Happiness, Joy and Optimism is certainly something we aspire to be withing Irvine Camera Club.

If you would like to know more about photography or if any of these images have inspired you pick up a camera then we have a packed schedule of weekly events including talks, walks, practical nights, community exhibitions, competitions and so much more going on this year.
