The images presented here were all taken by members of Irvine Camera Club and entered into our recent print competition.  The print competitions are an important part of our annual programme, allowing members an opportunity to explore the many different ways in which images can be presented in this medium.

Images of people are always fascinating to look at.  With so many diverse subjects around us all the time, it is never a struggle to find inspiration or interest when out with your camera.  But when printed, the images captured create an impact that can be intriguing and affecting in a way the digital version doesn’t get close to.

It’s hard to pinpoint exactly why this is.  It obviously has something to do with the paper it is printed on, especially if it has a texture to it.  But it also becomes something tangible that you can touch, something that has a feeling to it, something you can hold up close and examine.  It reveals details that are not always obvious in digital formats.  It forces you to take time to look at the image you are presented with and to engage with it as you would if they were stood in front of you, trying to figure out what they are thinking or feeling at the time it was taken.  Portraiture was and will always be a popular genre of photography for its very human nature.

If you have an interest in photography, would like to see what we are up to and want to be part of an exciting, all-inclusive club then why not come along, you will be made to feel very welcome.

We meet on Tuesdays, starting at 7.30 at Irvine Community Sports Club, Waterside, Marress Roundabout, Irvine KA12 8DL
