At Irvine Camera Club we have just started our 26-27 Season and if you have an interest in photography, you would be very welcome to come along and see what the club us all about. We have a packed schedule of weekly events including talks, walks, practical nights, community exhibitions, competitions and so much more.
One of things I get asked about regarding the walk we go on, is what happens if its wet. Very rarely do we ever get totally rained off but we tend to get out whatever the weather and see what happens. Some of these photos from Portencross were taken on such an evening where the weather decided to throw some challenges at us. The light wasn’t great when we arrived and soon deteriorated as the clouds moved in from Arran, followed shortly thereafter by the rain.
The rain isn’t always bad, the inclement weather can produce great skies, dramatic landscapes, it can bring out colour and if you are looking to shoot a busy location, but would like it with less people, then rain often helps. Less light can also make it easier for longer shutter speeds, so if you are looking to get creative with intentional camera movement or blurring techniques, it’s ideal.
Sometimes though, no matter how things turn out, a return visit is required for better weather. But not having gone out in the first place, you would never have found the shots you wanted. There is a lot of good that can come out of the challenging conditions we sometimes experience here on the west coast.
Irvine Camera Club prides itself on being an inclusive club, open to anyone, any age, who is interested in photography, whatever you use to take photos. Being social and getting out is an important part of what we do and who we are as club, and making friends and spending time doing something we enjoy is always at the heart of everything we aim to do.
