In the Herald - End of Season KO Final

Irvine Camera Club had its AGM on the 28th March where we reflected on our activities and achievements over the past 12 months.

It has been an excellent year for Irvine Camera Club.  Our change of venue and the move to a Tuesday night has seen a large increase in our membership.  We have attracted many members who are new to camera clubs, a few members have returned to Irvine after some time away, as well as people from other camera clubs who have come to Irvine to get more from their photography than they have perhaps been able to at their other clubs.

I strongly believe that it is the range of activities that Irvine Camera Club offers that has been instrumental in attracting new members.  We also pride ourselves on offering exposure to all our members’ work across many platforms.  Our website, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, the Irvine Herald, exhibitions, and national competitions are all ways that we use to promote your photography as democratically and as fairly as we can.

There were several changes to our committee at this AGM.  In particular, Alan Kempster has decided to stand down from the committee after having served for many years as Secretary and Vice Chair.   Alan has helped steer the club through ups and downs when it was Townend Camera Club and through its rebranding to Irvine Camera Club.  He should be very proud of how successful the club has become, because, without his dogged determination over the years, I think it is unlikely that we would be in such a strong and healthy position today.

We concluded our AGM evening with the final rounds of our End of Season Knockout.  Due to limited space, I can only show you some of the fantastic photographs that made it through.  Ultimately it was Mary MacLaren who took the top honours and the Ian Davidson Memorial trophy with her fabulous architectural photo of the Glasgow Science Centre.   Well done Mary!

Next week I will bring you photos from all this year’s prize winners.  Until then, enjoy the light!
