At Irvine Camera Club we have just started our 26-27 Season and have been looking back over the last fantastic season which ended with our popular summer walks.
The great thing about photo walks is that you never know what you might find. It’s an excuse to go to places that you may not have visited before, or somewhere familiar but at a different time of the day or year to when you might normally go to take photos.
One of these walks that seems to demonstrate this perfectly is a walk around Kilmarnock. Not at the top of most photographer’s wish list I would think, but we find ourselves there every year and it never fails to produce interesting and captivating images.
One of the charms of Kilmarnock is that it is changing, you can still find remnants of its history and the different ways that the town has been developed. It is a town that feels like it is trying to become something new and exciting for the future whilst not forgetting its past. There is much to see, both good and bad around the town so it is always an interesting walk.
These towns and villages, and there are many all over Ayrshire and Scotland, are places that need documenting by photographers. The changes are often small day by day, but our yearly visits show change through our images and will become an historical record the more time passes. This is an important by product of our work, so whilst everyone had a lovely evening out, socialising and taking photographs, there’s also an important documentary process taking place.
Irvine Camera Club prides itself on being an inclusive club, open to anyone, any age, who is interested in photography, whatever you use to take photos. Being social and getting out is an important part of what we do and who we are as club, and making friends and spending time doing something we enjoy is always at the heart of everything we aim to do.
