Another great article in this weeks local paper... Many thanks to all the photographers, Clive Watkins for his report, and The Irvine Herald for putting it all together.....(click on images below to view full screen)

After several weeks of photographic challenges and learning new editing techniques, the members of Irvine Camera Club held a friendly and fun knock-out competition this week. Everyone was asked to enter two of their best photographs, preferably taken since lockdown began. On our club Zoom meeting night, the images were presented in pairs and by using the rather nifty polling system in Zoom the club members were able to vote for their favourite photograph.

The most popular photograph of each pair was then put through to the next round, whereas the knocked-out photo was given a brief and constructive review by some of the clubs more experienced members. After 4 rounds we eventually whittled 45 images down to the final three. A lot of the voting was very close throughout the evening which I think is a sign of the quality of the images now being produced by the club. In fact, on a couple of occasions, I was called to declare a casting vote when the popular opinion was tied.

Once again, Anne-Charlotte Sire, from our twin club in France joined us and I watched with interest as one of her photographs quietly moved through the rounds, until eventually her “Black Cat” made it into the final three. She was joined in the final by Ian Mortimer with both of his entries – a Dunnock and Heron caught off guard as it ruffled its plumage. The final vote was very tight, but quite fittingly the honours went to Anne-Charlotte with “Black Cat” triumphing narrowly over Ian’s wildlife shots.

If you are keen on improving your photography skills or you would simply like to meet with likeminded folk, please feel free to join us on a Wednesday evening. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we are able to meet up again at our club room in Dreghorn but for now we will continue to use Zoom. Details can be found at www.irvinecc.co.uk and you can find us on FaceBook, Instagram and Twitter.
