There is always something to photograph even on days where the weather isn’t great. I recently found images from a photo-walk in Auchencruive that club members went on last year and it got me thinking about the challenges of finding things to photograph on days when it is tempting to stay inside with a cup of tea. On this day it had been very wet with hardly any light to speak of. This had continued into the evening, but undeterred they still headed out to see what they could find.
The selection of images shown here show the different subjects that members found in the most difficult of conditions. Black and white always works well if conditions are challenging as the images become more about form, texture and shape rather than colour. If you do get a break in the clouds and some light, it can be the most amazing light, full of unusual colours but also fleeting, so some luck is involved in being in the right place at the right time. It is a different kind of creative challenge but rewarding none the less as these images show.
