Irvine Camera Club is pleased to announce that at a recent assessment day, our Treasurer, Colin Houston, has been awarded the distinction of Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society.

Colin had to submit a panel of 10 images showing variety in approach and technique, evidence of creative ability and a high technical standard, together with a strong idea of visual awareness.

These are skills that Colin had been working on, and achieving, at Irvine Camera Club through a combination of listening to our speakers, attending workshops and field trips, and entering our club competitions.  Colin had a large selection of images to use as candidates in his submission to The Society.  Working with fellow RPS members in the club and by attending an RPS advisory session, he was able to complete his final selection.

Colin is an avid fan of high contrast black and white photography, so he opted to present an entirely monochrome panel for assessment.   Within that stylistic choice he was still able to clearly demonstrate command of the multiple skills and techniques required to gain a distinction.

The Royal Photographic Society is the UK’s leading photographic organisation with a distinguished heritage, a relevance to the present, and a vision of the future.  Both a charity and a membership organisation, with around 11,600 members worldwide, The Society is open to anyone with an interest in photography.

If you would like to take the next steps on your photographic journey we would love to see you at Irvine Camera Club, and who knows perhaps you, like Colin,  will take your photography to a whole new level.  You can find all our details at www.irvinecc.co.uk
