Castle Semple & Muirshiel Country Park

Thanks to Andy Tye for researching and coming up with this photowalk.

The trip to Muirshiel will be weather dependant as it is in the hills behind Lochwinnoch, the backup plan (or for those who would prefer the less strenuous option) would be Castle Semple.

The visitor centre is about 4.5 miles past Lochwinnoch village on a single track road with passing places
See attached PDF with directions.

The meeting point will be the last carpark next to visitor centre between 7 and 7:15pm. Note there are 4/5 car parks.

At the park it is a mixture of upland deciduous & Coniferous woods with lots of moss & Lichen.

There are walks to the Calder River, There is a significant waterfall but not practical to get a decent photograph from the path. But the river flows over rocks above the falls.

There are one or two mature trees along side the river

There are woodland trails and a Hill trail to Windy hill which is a stiff 1.5 mile walk from the carpark but with good views. It is a good gravel path apart from the last climb which is grassy.

There is also a trail to an old barytes mine which is too far for an evening walk but could be reached easily on a mountain / Trail bike

If anyone wants to go earlier in the day then all options are feasible

There will be options for woodland & landscape photography, also macro style & Nature

Please be prepared with footwear to suit the terrain, i.e. walking boots etc.
